A friend of murdered High School teacher, Kescia Branche, whose battered body was found in a cemetery last year November, went into the witness box yesterday as the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder continued.
Briana Michael told the court that she and Branche were friends for two years and that they used to go out on many occasions. The witness added that they also worked together for a period of time.
The witness also spoke extensively about how she got to know the accused and about the confrontation that was held at the station between her and the accused.
The evidence of the witness was suspended until today when the matter is expected to continue.
Forty-seven-year-old Matthew Munroe, of Diamond Housing Scheme has been charged with the capital offence. He is alleged to have murdered Branche on November, 7, 2017, at Georgetown.
The PI is being conducted before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
According to reports, her injuries appeared to be consistent with those inflicted by the impact of a vehicle. A post mortem revealed that she succumbed to brain haemorrhage, caused by blunt trauma to the head.
Police impounded Munroe’s vehicle, which had sustained damage, and had a missing bumper.
Munroe reportedly told police that he had driven into a pothole on East Coast Demerara. He was reportedly unable to show police the location.
