Local content has a meaning fuh everybody else in de world but when it comes to Exxon that company got a different definition.
Local content is when a foreign company invest and develop skills that will have a tremendous impact on people’s lives in you country.
Local content must be something tangible and visible. It must be something solid.
It is something that a man must seh when money land in ee hand, “Eh heh. Me life is on de road to happiness and change.”
It must use all local services before de company look outside. In fact, once de country can provide de services at a reasonable rate de foreign company must use it so that de money received from de services can mek people see de development.
For example, Guyana got nuff local planes, boats and trucking services. It got contractors, brokers, auditors, consultants, lawyers, and de likes. These got to get first pick.
Buying two puri and two potato ball is not local content. Renting a taxi, cleaning septic tank and mek Sonia sew two frock and a half slip fuh Henny son is not local content.
Emptying two basket at de dumpsite, or drinking two beer at Palm Court is not local content. Any and every lunatic that come to this country does do that, and more.
Passing by de roadside and throw a $20 in de hand of a beggar who can’t walk properly is not local content. De man accustom to that.
Local content is throwing a big wad of $5,000 bill at de beggar and mek him get up and run wid happiness.
Dem boys seh Exxon been here fuh nearly two decades ago and no vendor ain’t smile yet. Nobody ain’t got a new skill. De same skill to sell drugs remain to this day in Guyana.
Surely that can’t be anything close to local content.
And dem boys want to know why dem list Bourda Market as one of dem shopping centres. Instead, of de market shine, it decline.
Talk half, and open a school fuh de coalition govt to learn bout local content.
