The Guyana Cricket Board and Cricket Guy Inc. can again claim that whatever they are doing to Guyana’s cricket is working. The on field performance of Guyana Jaguars in the CWI Professional Cricket League has resulted in Four (4) consecutive Regional titles, paving the way for numerous players being selected to the Windies Senior and A teams.
Now, deservingly, Anthony Bramble has been selected to captain an invitational Windies team to the Canadian Global T20 Tournament. While not yet officially confirmed, Kaieteur Sports has been reliably informed that another Guyanese Sherfane Rutherford has also been named in the squad of young West Indian stars to showcase their skills in this inaugural tournament, the latest on the international T20 calendar.
Bramble, known for his calm and simple character, has quite a good cricketing brain and can be seen during regional matches directing traffic from behind the stumps in a Dhoni like fashion. A prolific scorer who can up the scoring rate in a flash, while also batting through a long inning, He plays club cricket for Albion Cricket Club and captains his franchise team in the Jaguars League. Bramble also played for the Clark Road Cricket Club in Trinidad before being summoned for national duties replacing Derwin Christian a Guyana’s first choice wicketkeeper.
Sherfane Rutherford, a find for the Jaguars, is a 19 year old all- rounder and an asset to any team. Last season Sherfane proved that he is as good as any seasoned all-rounder and did not disappoint the Guyanese selectors who gave him a chance when most of his senior counterparts were called up for West Indies duties.
Again, it appears that despite all the off field distractions Guyana’s cricket is on top of its game.
