Newly elected President of the Berbice Cricket Board, Hilbert Foster has secured sponsorship for a Double- Wicket Cricket Competition for teams in the Upper Corentyne Area. The sponsorship would be officially launched by the Berbice Cricket Board during the first ever Upper Corentyne Cricket Association Award Ceremony on Sunday, at the Taj Mahal Hotel.
Foster, during a Face the Public with Clubs in the Upper Corentyne Area in April, had made several commitments. The commitments included obtaining sponsorships of 20/20, 40-Over and Double-Wicket Competitions for Upper Corentyne teams, providing balls for teams, arranging coaching sessions and organising an Award Ceremony for Players. With the launching of the Double Wicket Sponsorship, valued at just under $200,000, Foster would have fulfilled all of his promises in just three months.
The Double-Wicket Competition would attract pairs from twenty eight clubs based in the Sub-Association, while the finals would involve the hosting of the Quarter-finals, Semifinals and Finals on the same day. The Berbice Cricket Board President at the launching would also be handing over cricket caps to the two First Division Teams in the Area, Cricket balls to twenty Clubs and Educational Posters to 28 clubs. Foster is also expected to officially launch the Upper Corentyne Cricket Hall of Fame.
The sponsor of the Double-Wicket Competition would be Surendra Ganesh of Nand Persaud Ganesh Packaging. Former West Indies Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan is the official sponsor of the 40-Over Tournament, while Sueria Manufacturing Ltd is the sponsor of the 20/20 Tournament under its Magic Moments Brand.
