Dear Sir ,
I am writing to you with a humble and desperate heart. I am 34 years old, a self-employed mother of two boys ages ten and six respectively.
I reside at 2049 Festival City Exit, North Ruimveldt ,Georgetown. Over the past year, I have been suffering from severe headaches which have been rendering me incapacitated. I saw Dr. Afzal Mohamed who recommended that I do an MRI.
After completion of the MRI, it was indicated that there is a mass on my pituitary gland. I was given painkillers to use. These helped for a short period of time but eventually the headaches became worse to the point of causing me to vomit constantly from the pain.
I was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Neurological Clinic where I saw some doctors there. They requested I have a few tests done. The tests requested were a hormone profile, a thyroid function test, and eye exam with a visual field test and a blood test. I was given a date to return.
Before the clinic date, I became very immobile due to the pains I was having. I then went to see Dr. Dukhi at Woodlands Hospital who wanted to admit me at the time saying after looking at the MR1 that I have a pituitary apoplexy. However I could not afford to be admitted.
I then asked if I waited if he could treat me at GPHC. He gave me a referral to be present at the hospital for the Monday following. On the date I was present at GPHC from 6:15am; I eventually saw Dr. Dukhi around noon.
After glancing through my results again, he dismissed me saying there wasn’t anything that could be done and that I have to wait to see the pituitary gland specialist who is scheduled to visit Guyana some time in May and that they would put my name down to see him. They identified him as Dr. Ivan Crandon.
He also gave me steroids and more pain killers to last three days. These medications have diminished my functions as a mother and restrained me from being able to work since they made me very sick. However, the pains were persistent and I was advised to see a neurologist in Trinidad named Dr. Richard Spann, who is attached to the Community Hospital of Seventh Day Adventist located on Western Main Road, Trinidad West Indies.
I was able to schedule an appointment to see him based on the urgency of the medical records that I forwarded to him. He requested a repeat of the MRI, one of the brain and one of the neck.
The results of the MR1 showed that I have a tumor on the pituitary gland that is pushing against the eye nerves and also bleeding from within. He indicated that from the visual field tests done that my peripheral vision has already been hampered and if left this way I will eventually go blind.
He said that I would require surgery to have the tumor removed in order to be pain free. He gave me a date for the surgery, 15th May 2018. However, it is very costly and I have since depleted my savings on the various doctor visits, along with everyday living expenses. As such, I am pleading for any kind of financial assistance on this matter.
Angel. Kanto.
