An early afternoon fire of unknown origin has seen the complete destruction of a West Ruimveldt premises and the displacement of five persons.
Trevor Reid, one of the occupants of the ‘Front Road’ residence, was at a loss for words as he watched firemen extinguishing the blaze
This publication was informed that Reid lived at the location with his wife and three other occupants, two of whom are children.
Reid was at work when he received a call from his wife informing him about the fire. He rushed over, but was not able to save anything. Reid was unable to say what would have caused the fire, since at the time, no one was at home.
Neighbours who witnessed the first signs of the fire – via smoke emanating from the house – claim that they called the Fire Service, that is just two blocks away from the scene of the fire, but by the time they arrived on the scene and got their equipment set up, they were only able to save the neighbours’ houses from getting burnt.
Many onlookers could be heard saying that the fire was electrical in nature, but the fact that no Guyana Power & Light connection to the premises was visible, suggests otherwise.
The Guyana Fire Service has since initiated an investigation to ascertain what would have caused the fire.
