Allicock and ‘Superman’ Lewis reach South America Games semi-finals

Guyana’s boxing duo of Keevin Allicock and Colin ‘Superman’ Lewis have both won their respective quarterfinal matches to move on to the semifinals which will assure them at least a bronze medal in the 2018 edition of the South America games in Bolivia.
Allicock assured Guyana of its first medal when he stormed into the semi- finals of the bantamweight division on Saturday. Allicock defeated Lucas Garcia of Uruguay by a 3-2 margin and was scheduled to fight an Argentine last night in his semifinal match.
Guyana Boxing Association President Steve Ninvalle informed that the 19-year-old Allicock had a tough fight. According to the GBA boss, manager/coach Terrence Poole indicated that Allicock was finding it difficult to get accustomed to the high altitude and weather. “Reports out of Bolivia state that Garcia pushed our boy. It was no walk in the park but Allicock’s tenacity and superior skill were evident following a dominating third round,” Ninvalle said.
Meanwhile in the light welterweight division, ‘Superman’ Lewis defeated Venezuelan, Christian Madena, in his quarter-final match to ensure that Guyana will leave with at least two medals. Word coming out of Bolivia was that Lewis had a very tough first round against the Venezuela before coach Poole changed up the tactics that allowed the Caribbean Champion to rally back and eventually win the match.
