Mahendra Bhagwandin narrowly edged past Richard Haniff to emerge champion in the exciting Grand Coastal Golf Classic Tournament played yesterday at the Lusignan Golf Club. The weather held good from Friday to Sunday morning according to Archbishop Guy’s instructions and the golfers made good use of it.
Mahendra and Richard were clear in the lead, with Richard doing better up to the last four holes, when according to Mahendra, “He pushed me to up my game when he told me how well he had done so far. I decided to take over from there!” With that mindset he took away the 1st place from his competing friend.
On hand to present the prizes was CEO of Grand Coastal Mr. Kevin Daby. Grand Coastal Hotel and Conference Centre, of Lot 1 & 2 Area M, Plantation Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara, (phone 592-220-1091), with motto “your number one choice for business or pleasure accommodations in Guyana, South America,” has been supporting the Lusignan Golf Club in several ways for some twelve years now. This year the Company began partnering with the LGC by offering a special incentive to its guests – special rates and free coaching lessons to play golf at the LGC.
Mr. Daby, in congratulating the winners, thanked the Club for the opportunity to be of support and expressed Grand Coastal’s willingness to continue to support golfing in Guyana. In response on behalf of the Club, President Aleem Hussain thanked Grand Coastal sincerely, and showed the Club’s appreciation by extending the position of Honorary Member to Mr. Daby.
Many of the recent previous winners participated in the Tournament, however only Richard and Aleem were in today’s winners row.
Longest Drive was won by Roy Cummings; Best Gross was won by Richard Haniff. The Best Net winners were: 4th – Miguel Oviedo 70/28; 3rd – Aleem Hussain 70/11; 2nd – Richard Haniff 66/13 and 1st – Mahendra Bhagwandin 65/20.
