Guyana’s national women’s Team of Trenace Lowe, Natalie Cummings and Chelsea Edghill defeated Ecuador by a 3-0 margin to advance to the quarterfinals round at the 2018 South American Games taking place in Cochabamba Bolivia.
Playing in high altitude conditions, the women seeded 6th in South America, overcame an earlier loss to the top seeds in the group, Chile, to defeat Ecuador in a must win match to advance to the quarterfinals. They await the draws to see who they play in the quarterfinals round with a chance to advance to the semifinals.
South America Region is strong in terms of quality of teams, many of players playing on the professional circuit.
The women’s team is also using these games to improve ranking points and as preparation for the Central America and Caribbean games scheduled for Barranquilla, Colombia from July 19th to 4th August and for the senior Caribbean Championships.
In the matches, Lowe beat Daniela Ortega 11-4, 11-8, 11-7, while Edghill overcame Paulina Vega 11-5, 11-8, 2-11, 11-8, and Cummings dispatched Judith Morales 11-6, 11-8, 11-9.
In other results Chile beat Ecuador 3-0, Brazil overcame Venezuela 3-1, Argentina beat Bolivia 3-0 and Brazil defeated Peru 3-0.
