Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Sigh, took swab samples from the remains of murdered High School teacher, Kescia Branche, whose battered body was found near a cemetery last year November.
This is according to Detective Police Sergeant Keith Conway, who was called to testify last week when the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the murder of Branche continued before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Forty-seven-year-old Matthew Munroe, of Diamond Housing Scheme has been charged with the capital offence. He is alleged to have murdered Branche on November, 7, 2017, at Georgetown.
According to Sergeant Conway, he was at the Georgetown Hospital mortuary where Dr. Singh performed a post mortem examination on Branche’s corpse, after which he took swab samples from her genital, anus and mouth before handing over the body to relatives for burial.
The police witness disclosed that the swab samples were handed over to an analyst.
Also testifying was Detective Police Sergeant Rodwell Sarrabo, who was deemed an expert in the field of data recovery from cellular phones, memory cards, computers and so on. Sergeant Sarrabo testified to a question and answer interview he conducted with Munroe at the Brickdam Police Station.
The police witness further give details as to investigations he done in relation to the murder of the school teacher.
Police arrested Munroe as a suspect in the killing right after he returned from the USA, where he travelled to around the same time Branche’s battered body was found unconscious at Louisa Row, Georgetown, in close proximity to Memorial Gardens on November 5, 2017.
The mother of one and school teacher at Richard Ishmael Secondary School succumbed to her injuries two days later in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital, without regaining consciousness.
According to reports, her injuries appeared to be consistent with those inflicted by the impact of a vehicle. A post mortem revealed that she succumbed to brain haemorrhage, caused by blunt trauma to the head.
Police impounded Munroe’s vehicle, which had sustained damage, and had a missing bumper.
Munroe reportedly told police that he had driven into a pothole on East Coast Demerara. He was reportedly unable to show police the location.
