The process for a major project to build 1,000 septic tanks in targeted areas around the coastland is underway. The project is being funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the European Union (EU).
The Government announced the project this week in an advertisement in Kaieteur News.
It was disclosed that the Government of Guyana has received financing in the amount equivalent to US$16,838,250 from the Inter-American Development Bank and EUR 10,675,000 from the Caribbean Investment Facility (CIF) of the European Union (EU).
It is the intention to apply part of the proceeds to payments for goods, works and services to be procured under the Water Supply and Sanitation Infrastructure Improvement Program (WSSIIP).
The main objectives of the project contemplate the construction of 1,000 septic tanks as part of the WSSIIP. However, for purposes of this initial phase, the scope of works shall include construction and related works of 335 Septic Tanks within WSSIIP areas.
The targeted areas include on the West Coast of Demerara, East Coast Demerara, East Berbice and Georgetown
Area 1 (Cornelia Ida to De Kinderen) includes five lots: Cornelia Ida to Leonora, Stewartville, Uitvlugt to De Willem, Meten Meer Zorg and De Kinderen; Area 2 is Arcadia to Grove; Area 3 (Fortlands to Susannah) Cumberland to No. 2 Village, Ordnance to Sheet Anchor, Canfield to Goed Bananen Land and No. 19 Road; Area 4 (Agricola to Cummings Lodge).
According to the executing entity, the Guyana Water Incorporated, it is inviting eligible contracting firms to indicate their interest in the works.
Contractors must supply the workforce from within the areas where the projects are taking place.
“Shortlisted contractors will be invited to submit bids for the works in accordance with procedures specified in the Inter-American Development Bank’s Policies for the Procurement of Works and Goods financed by the Inter-American Development Bank, GN-2349-9, March 2011.”
Bids are closed on Thursday, June 14, 2018.
