A miner was yesterday morning stabbed to death by his friend during an altercation in Beterverwagting, East Coast Demerara.
The dead man has been identified as 23-year-old Edward Bevney of Triumph, East Coast Demerara.
Bevney was stabbed several times about his body, reportedly by his assailant who hails from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, with whom he had ongoing feud.
According to reports, the suspect is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) under security guard.
Information reaching this newspaper stated that the suspect went to a nearby shop on his bicycle to conduct business. He left his bicycle outside; when he returned, he discovered it was gone.
He inquired about his bike and was told that Bevney had taken it.
This publication was told that the suspect armed himself with a cutlass and a “jucker” and confronted Bevney. He allegedly stabbed him Bevney several times with the ‘jucker’.
In an attempt to defend himself, an eyewitness said, Bevney chopped his killer to his hand.
During the altercation, both men fell to the ground. When police officers arrived at the scene both Bevney and his killer were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where Bevney was pronounced dead on arrival.
His assailant was admitted as a patient.
According to reports, the men worked together in the interior some time ago and had a misunderstanding over the sale of narcotics. The feud was ongoing ever since.
