In the recent days, there have been a number of reports in Kaieteur News regarding the concessions and operations of the Guyana Goldfields Inc/Aurora Gold Mine.
As a developing country, we must engage in healthy discussions on strategies and engagements to take this country to another level.
The newspaper raised questions about the concessions granted to the company and the earnings of Guyana. There were also questions about the agreement that the company has with the Government of Guyana and whether the company is fulfilling them.
Mr. Editor, for over three years now, our company, Japarts, has been doing business with the folks down at Aurora Mines.
They signed a contract for the transporting of fuel and other supplies and recently we were able to be awarded another contract for eight months stripping and transporting from the mines from the mill.
We started with a few staffers. Today, Japarts, thanks to the confidence the company has placed in us, has over 60 employees.
With just a few pieces of equipment, we now have over 45 pieces, including fuel trucks, bulldozers and excavators. Mr. Editor, this is because of the confidence placed in us by this company.
We are currently working on a major, long-term contract as the Aurora Mines move to underground mining. Our staffers have benefitted from intense health and safety training.
They are getting meals and lodging.
We have invested tens of millions of dollars in more equipment and have hired electricians, drivers, service men and woman, heavy duty equipment operators and others.
They are buying from locals.
A significant number of local companies, like Global Seafoods, and city supermarkets and meat centres are also benefitting. So too are equipment and spare parts suppliers.
There are much more to be said, like the benefits that spill off from the several hundreds of workers and their families and the trickle down effect to the economy.
Terry Singh,
Japarts
