Thirty-three companies have received contracts for drainage and irrigations work in Region Four.
The contracts are the first to be issued for the year 2018.
The contractors are tasked with ensuring several drains and trenches are clean in order for the Region to see a reduction of a number of bacteria and insect borne diseases.
Regional Executive Officer, Pauline Lucas told contractors that she is not prepared to accept work that is below standard.
“While I have no intention of pointing out anyone, I am not prepared to accept work that is below standards,” Lucas said.
Lucas told the contractors to ensure that the persons they employ deliver excellent and quality work.
Lucas stressed the urgency for the delivery of quality work.
She said that when the work is satisfactorily completed, she will ensure that payments are processed in a timely manner.
Lucas urged contractors not to employ children, stating that she will not tolerate it.
“If you want to help a child with money that is fine but I will not tolerate anyone engaging in the services of children in executing these contracts. A child’s place is in school not cleaning any drains regardless of the economic situation of that child,” she declared.
