Dear Editor,
Since the 1800s, the British Guiana Government felt the need to provide demarcation for Guyana’s borders.
A Commission was then set up to undertake such an action thus indicating that there will be clear demarcation between Guyana and Venezuela, and therefore the boundaries will be known.
However, Venezuela, has worked feverishly over the years at turning the controversy about its contention of invalidity of the Arbitral Award into a dispute about territory.
That country has also sought to press a historic claim to Guyana’s Essequibo region, which encompasses two-thirds of the former British Colony, since US oil giant, ExxonMobil, discovered oil in disputed waters off its coast in 2015.
Guyana’s main opposition, the PPP/C, is not happy with the way the current administration has disbursed funding to offset expenses that it might incur in terms of Lawyer’s fees to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)
Mr. Editor, it is my personal belief that the APNU and AFC coalition is doing the right thing, as it seeks to provide clear scrutiny, transparency and accountability whenever monies are being disbursed for national purposes.
The Marriott Hotel, the Amaila Falls Project and the Berbice Bridge Project are just some of the projects that to this day, the full details of the contract have not been released.
The previous administration had entered into a number of shady deals that were shrouded in secrecy. Despite repeated public calls the PPP/C never saw the need to be a transparent Government.
The Guyana Government has made and continues to make significant progress on the international frontiers since its ascension to office in 2015.
The Coalition Government must be commended for observing parliamentary and financial prudence
Best Regards,
Dillon Goring
