Sir,
Greetings, and best wishes to you. I want to express my support for your newspaper for all the stories you have published about corruption in our country under both the PPP administration and the present government.
You have now taken on a formidable opponent, ExxonMobil and my prayers and best wishes are with you because for the sake of our country you have put your company ahead of profits.
I wish to engage your attention to another fuel racket that you have been covering and again, this is a massive fraud and loss of revenue for our country. As peeping Tom said, if the government should just stamp out fuel smuggling it wouldn’t have to raise any taxes.
Recently Atlantic Fuels operated by a prominent cricket board official rented a gas station in Bartica and started to sell fuel. I don’t know how the fuel is marked by the Guyana Energy Agency but it comes from the North West District.
Mr Van West Charles who has a fuel import license covers this business and so it becomes legitimate. The fuel is sold at a very low price so that other legitimate license holders cannot compete. The fuel is of questionable quality and it is sold also at BK quarries where bush trucks go and fuel up.
This type of operation will bring massive losses to the government in tax collection and cause legitimate companies to fold.
Your newspaper is the only voice that can help this situation. This is nothing other than smuggling and money laundering operations. I wish if you can investigate and publish this letter.
I wish to remain anonymous because of the possible repercussion.
Thank you.
