The men who were captured while raiding a ranch up the Canje River in which two were killed and were charged with robbery under arms have been further charged.
The men Timothy Sampson, 30, of Lot 12 Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice; Lawrence Vanlewin, 24, of Sand Hill, Berbice River; and Rhondell Crawford, 21 of Betsy Ground, East Canje, Berbice; were already on a joint charge of robbery under arms.
However they and a fourth man, Kevin Fraser, of Adelphi Village East Canje Berbice were slapped with two further charges of robbery under arms and simple larceny.
They are accused of while in the company of others, on Friday, March 2, at Potocco Creek, Canje River and while armed with guns and cutlasses, robbed Bharrat Mahadeo, Chunilal Indar and Sunil Seetaram of one solar panel; 24 sheep; 15 ducks; horse bit; four-length rope; two torchlights; one cutlass; one radio and one Nokia cellphone total cost of $1,375,000, property of Krishna Persaud.
They were also charged with simple larceny committed on Bharrat Mahadeo .
They appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Reliance Magistrate’s Court and were granted bail in the sum of $300,000 on each charge.
On the day in question at approximately 10:00 am police in B’ Division acting on information of a robbery ventured to the Potocco Creek, Canje River area.
They intercepted a boat with Sampson and Vanlewin inside in the Canje River. Based on further information, the ranks proceeded to a location where the robbery allegedly took place. There, they discovered all of the animals with their legs bound and the other stolen property loaded inside a camouflaged aluminium boat.
Upon arriving at the scene the ranks were confronted by the now dead men, Amar Bissoon and Indarjit Sham, during which there was an exchange of gun fire and the two men were fatally wounded.
A 12-gauge pump action shotgun, a .32 pistol, eleven live cartridges, and five live.32 rounds were found in possession of the bandits. Also, three spent cartridges and a .32 spent shell were retrieved at the scene.
The three raiders are expected to return to court on May 31.
