Imran Khan, the brother of the businessman whom Andriff Gillard implicated in an assassination plot against the President, is likely to be charged today, after the same Gillard made allegations of threats.
Imran Khan was invited to Providence Police Station on Thursday last and a confrontation was held with Mr Gillard in relation to allegations that Khan threatened Andriff Gillard to kill him while brandishing a gun.
Prominence was given to the names Imran Khan and Andriff Gillard after Gillard implicated the Khan brothers in a plot to assassinate President Granger. Gillard, in an interview with a newscast on April 20, 2017, said he was solicited by a businessman to kill the President.
The allegations led to a COI, which then saw the shaking up of the Guyana Police Force, as a result of recommendations emanating from the COI, which was spearheaded by retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Slowe.
That was not the end of Khan’s brush with the authorities. Khan got himself into another controversy after he was videoed by a traffic rank at a routine traffic stop, with his licensed firearm on his lap, while suggesting names of Senior Police ranks for the junior rank to refer to, if he wanted to know who he (Khan) was.
The most recent controversy has been an allegation of threatening by Gillard. A senior officer confirmed that a report was made on Wednesday, around 4:00 pm. An investigation was initiated and Khan was invited to the Providence Police Station.
Khan has confirmed that he was invited to the station in relation to claims of him threatening Gillard to kill him. He (Khan) went to the station voluntary and lodged his firearm when asked, since the allegations suggested that he brandished his weapon.
When asked if a confrontation was held and what was it about, Khan said that Gillard made a report that he (Gillard) was driving on the East Bank public road on Wednesday last, at about 11:00hrs in the vicinity of Little Diamond, heading toward Georgetown, when he noticed a car following him.
Gillard continued to drive and then stopped at Farm Village by the bus shed to see who was following him.
The car then pulled up alongside his car and the windows were wound down and he (Gillard) said that he saw that it was Khan in the car.
He then told the police that Khan brandished a firearm and told him (Gillard), “It’s only time with you; I will kill you.”
