Investigations are underway so as to determine the circumstances under which the remote control was stolen from off the Lady J, a dental boat. The dental boat, which is owned by the Region Two Democratic Council, is utilized by the Health Department for dental outreaches in the Pomeroon.
The remote, which was stolen from off the Lady J Boat, however, is believed to be the only device capable of controlling the vessel.
Reports of the disappearance of the remote first surfaced at the RDC statutory meetings on last Tuesday, as Chairman of the Health and Sanitation Committee, Arnold Adams presented his report. “This remote is the only device that can control the dental boat, without it the boat cannot work. The remote steers and puts the boat in gear and starts.”
At the moment, it remains unclear when the remote was stolen from the vessel. According to reports, however, the dental boat was out of operation for some eight years. It was recently repaired and sent on a trial run by a team from the RDC in January.
Since the remote was most likely used to initiate the test drive, sources are claiming that the remote control went missing during the course of this year following the repair of the vessel.
Since the dental boat is still not utilized because of the missing remote, affordable dental health continues to pose as a major challenge to residents in the Pomeroon. Instead of taking the service to residents, many would now have to endure the high costs of travelling to and from Coastal for dental health service.
