May 11, 2018 marked three years of the APNU+AFC Coalition in government following the historic elections of 2015, which were triggered by the AFC-piloted No Confidence Motion in the former PPP government.
There has been a considerable amount of achievement by the Coalition Government during this period. Guyana is undergoing transformation and a development revolution. Following are some of the areas which the AFC has led or has been integrally involved with while in Government.
1. Training opportunities for GuySuCo workers.
2. Micro financing for startup projects.
3. New agricultural lands opened.
4. Massive drainage and irrigation work nationwide.
5. Multimillion-dollar pumps installed in the main agricultural regions.
6. Rehabilitation of major farm-to-market roads.
7. Water harvesting projects.
8. Turmeric factory in Hosororo
9. New Rice markets – 174,000 tonnes rice sold to Mexico
10. Sugar industry right-sized through diversification
11. New agriculture centre and reservoir for Region Nine.
12. Business registration hubs in Regions Eight and Nine.
13. $100M Revolving Fund to help entrepreneurs.
14. Industrial sites at Belvedere and Lethem.
15. Issued over 2,727 loans and grants
16. Created mining syndicates
17. Hundreds of mining blocks handed out to small miners
18. Resuscitated mining in Matthews Ridge
19. Mining policy and regulation being reviewed
20. Commitment to eliminate the use of mercury in mining
21. Revision of the National Forest Policy and Plan completed
22. Legislation to safeguard oil and gas sector
23. Merge of NFMU, National Data Management Authority and E-Government Unit
24. Telecommunication Bill passed
25. Launch of 4G internet
26. Free internet for schools and government institutions
27. Over 100 building connected to the national network.
28. 9000 laptop computers distributed to teachers.
29. Over 100 ICT hubs established across the country
30. Internet and Government’s e-Services to the Hinterland, Poor and Remote Communities
31. Expansion of the national e Government fibre optic network
32. Commencing a National Broadband Expansion project.
33. Successfully hosted Hackathons+CodeSprint
34. ‘Guyanese Girl Code’ teaching Coding/Programming to girls
35. Arthur Chung Convention Centre rehabilitated
36. GPO Online Mailbox services launched
37. Rehabilitation of post offices
38. Iwokrama aerodrome lengthened
39. More than 30 hinterland aerodromes rehabilitated
40. US$138M expansion of the CJIA
41. Bartica Town stelling upgraded
42. Lady Northcote and MV Kimbia renovated
43. New ferry for North-West district
44. Studies and plans for new Demerara Harbour Bridge completed
45. Plans to bridge Essequibo River completed
46. Berbice Bridge toll reduced
47. Four-lane extension of the EBD Public Road completed
48. Work on the Sheriff Street-Mandela Avenue, the ECD, the Canal Polder roads commenced
49. Village, urban and new towns’ roads constructed or repaired.
50. Four pedestrian overpasses installed
51. Kitty Roundabout completed
52. East Bank Berbice Road surfaced
53. Agreement signed with Brazil on construction of Linden-Lethem road
54. Lower electricity rates
55. New power-generation sets
56. Solar energy systems installed at various locations
57. Government buildings outfitted with solar photovoltaic panels
58. Smart Energy Street and Traffic Lights being installed
59. Special Organised Crime Unit became operational
