DEAR EDITOR,
Permit me the opportunity of thanking and congratulating the NY Editor of the Guyana Chronicle newspaper, Mr. Dennis Nelson, for his exemplary and patriotic leadership in keeping West Indians, Guyanese and others updated on issues and news affecting Guyana and Guyanese in the USA, including Congress and Washington DC.
Thank you, Mr. Nelson and your group of unique committed writers, professionals, leaders and reformers for making the NY Guyana Chronicle an indispensable asset to the USA and Guyanese communities.
Mr. Nelson, you do not have the staff like your Guyana and other newspaper counterparts, yet your product speaks volumes for itself. With its crosswords, sports and horoscope, nothing is as refreshing as a Chronicle newspaper on the weekends, except a tall glass of Guyana rum and some coconut water. Keep the Guyana flag flying proudly!
Brilliant jurists and renowned politicians Colin Moore and Albert Baldeo have written extensively and led the way with invaluable research, spirited insights on the Venezuelan threat and legal, political, socio-economic and international issues. Carlyle Harry, Handel Andrews, Tangerine Clarke, Edgar Henry and others columnists educate and inform all readers regarding current Guyana news, accounting, real estate and other topics. Not only have millions read the unique online edition on the Chronicle website, but it has become the most sought after Guyanese newspaper in the USA.
Albert Baldeo’s classic cricket columns, especially those on Rohan Kanhai, Sir Gary Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, Clive Lloyd, Alvin Kallicharran, Sunil Gavaskar, which were first published in the Guyana NY Chronicle, have been republished in several respected international media, sports websites and magazines, including those in the Caribbean, India, England, Australia, the UK and other countries.
His advocacy and leadership through the newspapers have benefitted the lives of the diaspora, like securing the Richmond Hill subway elevator, improving police relations in minority communities, civil and human rights, and enhancing government services.
Attorneys Colin Moore’s 3-part and Baldeo’s 2-part series condemning and exposing Venezuela’s illicit threats to Guyana’s territory, are masterpieces on this national, regional and global issue. These gentlemen have trailblazing track records and undeniable reputations, where they tried to change the status quo and effect political, economic and social change for all, and are historical, yet humble personalities. The Chronicle has been a vehicle for advocacy and change, improving lives and keeping readers updated.
While other newspapers just function as transparent political mouthpieces, propaganda and corrupt vehicles for selfish political interests in Guyana, the NY Guyana Chronicle has led the way with original and objective writings from some of the best activists, scholars and writers renowned in the diaspora, for free, available to all, and updated online.
These patriots, journalists and scholars have made Guyana, the Caribbean and the diaspora proud, have imparted their invaluable knowledge, insights, experience and research selflessly for all to benefit from, and have provided regular updates.
Thank you for your service and vision, Mr. Nelson and the Chronicle institution.
