Two men who are on trial for allegedly killing their common law wives are likely to know their fates today when a 12-member mixed jury returns from deliberation.
Alan Morrison formerly of 65 D’Urban Street, Werk-en-Rust, and Vindra Siriram, formerly of Friendship, East Bank Demerara, are facing separate murder charges before Justice Sandil Kissoon and Justice James Bovell-Drakes respectively at the High Court in Georgetown.
This morning both judges will sum up the evidence presented in the trial and thereafter direct the jurors who will be sent for deliberation on a verdict.
Morrison is on trial for the third time, for allegedly murdering his reputed wife, Donna Thomas, between May 26 and May 27, 2012 at a home they shared.
Morrison is facing his second re-trial. His previous trials, the last being in 2015, ended in hung a jury.
Morrison and Thomas shared a common-law relationship at D’Urban Street, where Morrison is alleged to have murdered Thomas. The woman’s body was discovered in a pool of blood with several stab wounds.
Appearing for the state in this matter are Prosecutors Mandel Moore and Lisa Cave. Attorney-at-Law Maxwell McKay is representing the murder accused.
Meanwhile, Siriram is accused of the June, 2014 murder of his reputed wife Shelly Persaud which occurred at the couple’s Friendship, East Bank Demerara home.
Upon his arraignment Siriram who is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Damian DaSilva pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between June 9 and June 10, 2014, he murdered the 25-year-old woman.
The State Prosecutors on this case are Shawnette Austin and Seeta Bishundial.
Persaud, a housewife was found at the bottom of the back stairs of the couple’s premises. Her head was partly submerged in a five-gallon bucket of water. Following
the discovery of the woman’s body, a report was made by the family to the police.
Subsequent investigations led to Siriram being taken into custody and charged for the murder.
