Almost one month after the White Castle Fish Shop was set afire; the former Manager of the institution was yesterday slapped with an arson charge.
Alexio Keizer, 30, of Lot 83 Duke Street, Kingston, appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where the charge was read to her.
The allegation against the woman is that on April 14, last, she set fire to the building, which is owned by Krishnandra Beharry.
The fire reportedly resulted in extensive damage to equipment and appliances owned by the woman’s reputed husband, Jermaine Langevine. Langevine rents the building from Beharry.
The woman denied the arson allegation.
Keizer was represented by Attorney-at-Law Bernard DaSilva, who asked the court to release his client on reasonable bail.
Police Prosecutor Simone Payne had no objection to bail being granted to the defendant. Magistrate Azore granted the defendant $250,000 bail and instructed her to make her next court appearance on May 30.
According to information, about 2:30 hrs on April 14, last, the building which is located at John and Hadfield Streets, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown was set afire by the defendant but swift response by members of the Guyana Fire Service prevented the flames from spreading through the entire building.
It was reported that the defendant poured gasoline in the lower flat of the building, which houses the business because of domestic problems which the couple have been experiencing.
The couple has been living together for two years and they share a child together.
