Under the theme: ‘Space Games to test your limits’, gym members and members of the public would get an opportunity to test their limits when Space Gym, located at 102-109 Sandeman Place & Croal Streets, Stabroek, above the Status Hotel, brings off the first of two events for its 2nd anniversary, tomorrow evening from 18:00hrs.
The event will be a powerlifting competition where competitors will be aiming to outdo each other in three categories; Juniors, Masters and Open, both male and female. While the Junior and Masters winners would be decided using the Wilkes Formula, the Open category has been divided up into light, medium and heavyweight segments.
According to Space Gym Manager, Mr. Lucas Matos, competitors would be pleased to know that attractive incentives and trophies are on offer including Exclusive T-shirts. Matos informed that for tomorrow’s activity, male and female athletes would be engaged in the traditional lifts in powerlifting; squat, bench press and deadlift.
‘Big’ John Edwards, an internationally renowned powerlifter that has represented Guyana with flying colours for many years, will be one of tomorrow’s contestants while Carlos Petterson, an aspiring powerlifter who has shown what mettle he is made of, will be a guest lifter.
Matos also noted that the second activity would be contested on Saturday at the Gym from 16:00hrs, a male and female Fitness Resistance competition.
