Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman yesterday sentenced a miner to three years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to trafficking marijuana.
Twenty-five-year-old Ravidev Mohan of Port Kaituma admitted to the charge which stated that on May 1 at Four Mile, Port Kaituma, he had in his possession 25 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Facts presented by Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore stated that on the day in question, ranks from the Port Kaituma Police Outpost were conducting patrol duty when they conducted a search on Mohan who was at the time on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) HC 7378.
The court heard that a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems were found in a hoodie that was being worn by Mohan at the time. He was then told of the offence and taken into custody.
Magistrate Latchman said that based on Mohan’s early guilty plea and the fact that he did not waste the court’s time, she would sentence him to three years imprisonment and fine him $30,000.
