Philbert McPherson appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, yesterday, to answer to the charge of robbery under arms, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It was alleged that on April 20, last, at the Criminal Investigation Department, McPherson, was accused of having in his possession a pistol without owning a firearm licence.
It was further alleged that on April 25, the 22-year-old robbed Jagdeo Ramnauth of one Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued $160,000, one black leather wallet valued $15,000, US$150 and $50,000 in local currency. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
According to McPherson’s attorney, the man resides at 707 Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, with his mother and has one child. He is said to be an electrician and bus driver.
Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne, objected to bail being granted on the grounds that the nature of the matter is serious and because he was using a firearm.
McPherson’s attorney stated that the gun wasn’t in her client’s possession on the day in question. She also noted that a video of the robbery was shown to her client. Subsequently in the video, the guys that were seen running from the scene did not match the physical description of her client.
Her client is a Rasta guy, while the guys who ran from the scene were bald.
The accused was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on May 30.
