A 39-year-old deportee from Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, who is accused of sexually assaulting nine students (boys and girls) at a West Coast Berbice primary school has been released on station bail after he was arrested.
Additionally, the police also confirmed that a file was prepared and sent to the DPP for advice.
Sources had stated that the students claimed that the individual touched them inappropriately. The students were taken to a medical institution for a medical examination which revealed that they were not sexually penetrated. Police, however, are said to be investigating the sexual assault claims (inappropriate touching).
Kaieteur News understands that the school hosted a sale on Thursday when the accused allegedly entered the school compound. The deportee then reportedly offered to purchase snacks from the sale and in turn offered the students. During the time, he tried to befriend the children by “chatting them up”.
It was also revealed that on the very day of the sale, the accused was caught fondling a student in the washroom. The head teacher was immediately informed.
