As Guyana celebrates the 180th Anniversary of the arrival of Indians on May 5, a new movie which comprises mostly Guyanese actors has been launched to commemorate this day.
The movie “Echoes on the plantation” was directed by Kishore Sewnarine, out of New York, and is said to illustrate the cultural differences between Guyanese people as it portrays the livelihood of Indians on the sugar plantation.
“Echoes of the Plantation” was initially plotted in 2015 when the director of the movie made a research presentation at his office. It was so intriguing that he followed it up and choose Guyana for his shooting destination.
According to the producer, the movie is said to retell the struggles of the early people to get the nation to where it is today. It also tells of their resilience and fortitude.
The cast includes first time actors such as Alex Wayne, Satwika Reddy and Pandit Ramdualar Singh.
Scenes were shot in different parts of Guyana. There was filming in every county. The movie was shown at the Aracari Resort on Friday night and enjoyed by many.
The producer aims for the movie to be a cultural sentiment. He stated in an interview, that he wants people to dwell on more than just watching the movie. They must note the storyline and share it with others.
This movie is one of many that depict the ancestors and their struggles in Guyana.
