The Big Bold and Beautiful Pageant returned to the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Thursday night with a bang after a hiatus of two years. Promoted by Nelson Entertainment, the event drew a mammoth crowd of eager patrons to see eight plus- size women strut their stuff on stage.
In the end Lindel Wilson was crowned queen, but many felt that the crown should have gone to Shanice Wilson the youngest delegate.
Wilson was judged the most intelligent and was declared the first runner up. The second runner up position went to Desna Joseph, another crowd favorite.
The queen walked away with a flat screen 42-inch Samsung Smart TV, US$500, a trophy and certificate of participation.
The First runner up received US$250, a trophy, Android tablet and certificate. while the second runner copped US$125, a certificate, a trophy and a cosmetic hamper.
The women modeled in two segments— career and evening Gown. They also exhibited a talent piece.
In this segment delegates outdid themselves in poetry, song and physical display.
Most if not all the poems centered on discrimination against plus-size women and on self empowerment. There were different words and different styles of presentation, but the message was one and the same -for fluffy women to be loved and respected.
The reminder was driven home that while good things come in small packages better things come in larger ones.
