Dear Editor,
I was intrigued when I saw the caption in (17/4/18) Stabroek News which reads the virtual opposite of the above caption i.e “Break and enter suspect gets 18 months for escape from police outpost”.
I do not think it takes much common sense to realize that any criminal-minded person, suspect or convicted, will try to escape if s/he is not carefully supervised; in a situation where the supervising official is so lax as was reported in the newspaper, it is that official who should be at least reprimanded if not dealt with more condignly.
(Please, Your Worship, Madam Magistrate, forgive my apparent questioning of your ruling; I hasten to add that that is not the purpose of this letter; I realize your hands may be tied by the law; but , then again, we have the famous quote: “…if the law is an ass, then…..”)
But, I must ask: ‘What good can come out of our punishing the cat that drinks the milk which is left un-attended?’
