– suspect held
A quarrel between two men over a woman ended with a Brazilian being chopped to death and a Guyanese being detained.
The victim, 46-year-old Adrian Sousa Santos, succumbed after being chopped on the right arm. His alleged attacker, a 33-year-old Guyanese, has reportedly admitted to the killing.
According to reports, the two men and others were drinking on Saturday night at an area known as Quartz Stone, ‘Far Far’ Backdam, Cuyuni, when the Brazilian began to make advances to a Venezuelan woman who was the girlfriend of the Guyanese.
An argument broke out between the two men and Santos, allegedly speaking in Portuguese, threatened to kill the Guyanese.
The suspect reportedly then armed himself with a cutlass and chopped Santos twice on the right arm. The Brazilian reportedly died at the scene, while others who were present apprehended his attacker until police ranks arrived.
The suspect and the body of his alleged victim were brought to Georgetown yesterday.
There have reportedly been at least three murders in ‘F’ Division since the year began.
Two Fridays ago, Dominican Republic national Pedro Pablo Rosario was shot dead in a mining camp at Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni/Mazaruni.
He was allegedly slain by gunmen who carted off a large sum of raw gold after invading a mining camp.
