The Police in B Division took time off from their busy schedule to engage in a one day 10/10 softball cricket competition for the Commander, Assistant Commissioner Lyndon Amsterdam Cup.
The activity was played recently at the Rose Hall Community Center, East Canje. It featured the three subdivisions namely Subdivision one (New Amsterdam/ Canje/ East Bank and East Coast Berbice), Subdivision Two (West Berbice) Subdivision No3 (Corentyne) and the Felix Austin Police Training College (FAPTC) at Adventure Corentyne.
In the first game No1 subdivision defeated No2 subdivision by 59 runs. No1 subdivision batted first and blasted 127 with Carlyle Austin scoring an even 50. In reply No2 were dismissed for 68. Bowling for No1 subdivision Assistant Superintendent Chabinauth Singh bagged 4for 4 from two overs.
The FAPTC then defeated No3 subdivision by 7 wickets after holding them to 111. The training school boys then reached 115-5 with Troy Drakes unbeaten on 68.
In the final, the FAPTC made light work of No1 subdivision in an 8 overs affair. No 1 Subdivision made 48-6 to which FAPTC replied with 50-3 with Troy Drakes once again the main run getter with 38 (4×6) not out.
During the interval a police team defeated an ex-police team by 12 runs in a 3 overs affair. Police made 31 and held the ex-police team to 19.
The presentation ceremony which followed saw the FAPTC receiving the Commander Cup, while No1 subdivision collected the runner up trophy.
Troy Drakes was man-of-match in the finals. He received a cricket bat for his outstanding performance from overseas based Guyanese ex-policeman and former player, Gary Solomon.
