– as ranks probe reports of another killing in the area
Police have released all of the suspects in the murder of Dominican Republic national Pedro Pablo Rosario, which occurred at a Cuyuni/Mazaruni mining camp two Fridays ago.
Kaieteur News understands that the men are on station bail and are to report to the police today.
Indications are that the investigators have made little progress in identifying the individuals who killed Rosario and allegedly made off with a large sum of raw gold.
This is despite reportedly questioning an individual who claims to have knowledge of the robbery and of the perpetrators.
The ‘source’ who spoke with Kaieteur News alleged that the man he spoke with claimed that he was to have gone on the robbery, but ended in the company of a woman on ‘the landing’ instead.
The ‘source’ also alleged that he received information that the robbers had planned to attack the camp on Thursday. One of the men reportedly even entered the camp, but retreated when Rosario, who was armed with a shotgun, woke up.
The source also identified some of the alleged suspects by their nicknames.
The investigation is being spearheaded by the Force’s Major Crimes Unit. The suspects were all brought to Georgetown for questioning.
Police had also detained the mining camp workers after having some suspicion about their version of events.
One report is that the gunmen shot Rosario because he was armed with the company’s shotgun when they attacked.
A postmortem indicated that Rosario was shot with a handgun and a shotgun.
A source had said that a shotgun is missing from the camp, and that workers had claimed that it fell overboard while they were pursuing the attackers.
According to reports, the gunmen entered the camp at around 02.00 hrs two Fridays ago.
After shooting Rosario, the robbers allegedly held the other employees at gunpoint before fleeing with two mats from the operation’s sluice box.
Meanwhile, police were yesterday probing reports of another murder in Cuyuni. They were still to reach the area up to late yesterday evening.
