A prisoner is on the run after escaping from custody.
According to reports, the man escaped from the residence of a prison officer around 16:30 hours on Sunday.
He was said to be clearing the yard of weeds, under the supervision of the prison officer, when he slipped away.
Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels told this publication that the escaped prisoner is 23-year-old Deryck Oudkerk from Upper Watooka, Linden.
He said that Oudkerk was serving an 18-month sentence for Larceny, when he escaped.
The prisoner was working at an officer’s residence at Ann’s Grove on the East Coast of Demerara. Samuels said that efforts are being made by the police to recapture him.
