For the fourth year Bradley Fredericks was elected unopposed as President when the Upper Demerara Cricket Association held its Annual General Meeting last Saturday at Hymara Park.
Fredericks thanked the clubs for having faith in him and electing him once again to head the Association and pledged to work towards enhancing cricket in the Region. “All the competitions are being played in the other Associations but none in Upper Demerara; we do not get any sponsorship and we have to play tournaments with money from our pockets. However, we are thankful that you stick with us no matter the challenges.”
According to Fredericks, the UDCA is being sidelined and no school cricket is being run in Upper Demerara. He noted that the UDCA is not getting any support or finances from the Guyana Cricket Board although the UDCA is a legal body. “We want the Guyana Cricket Board to understand that we are by law legal and we are the constituted fifth cricket Association.”
The President also noted that there is continued lack of sponsorship and there is need for urgent repairs and upgrading of the grounds and there are no cricket gears and balls for the clubs.
With all the hiccups the President promised to have a lot of cricket played in 2018 and to seek assistance in upgrading the grounds in the Region.
The clubs represented were Royal Champions, Coomacka, West Watooka, Muritaro, Young Achievers, Ituni Warriors, Dora and Malali, Christianburg and Endeavour.
The executive body is President – Bradley Fredricks, Vice President – Clayton Van Hersel, Secretary – Eutol Wilson, Asst. Secretary – Fiona David, Treasurer – Noreen White, Asst. Treasurer – Victor Persaud and Public Relations Officer – Jacquey Bourne. Chairman Competition Committee – Selwyn Graham and the Trustees are Jeffrey Gill and Hilton Lyle. The Returning Officer was Ronald Williams. (Jacquey Bourne)
