A 16-year-old boy, who allegedly slapped a 34-year-old painter after robbing him at gunpoint, is among three persons in custody following the discovery of firearms and ammunition at ‘C’ Field, Sophia.
A release stated that following an intelligence-led operation yesterday, police seized a Taurus pistol with six live rounds, two .32 special revolvers with four rounds and 79 grams of cannabis sativa.
Police carried out the operation after receiving reports that a 16-year-old had robbed a 34-year-old on Thursday night of his cell phone, money, watch and other valuables.
It is alleged that the victim, a painter, was walking through ‘C’ Field, Sophia when the teen pointed a ‘shiny’ object at him and demanded money and other valuables.
After the man handed over his belongings, including a haversack containing his lunch bowl, the teen allegedly slapped him and told him to “run home.”
The victim reported the incident to the police and also gave a description of his attacker.
Acting on this information, police went to the teen’s home, where they allegedly found a revolver, a cell phone and other suspected stolen items.
A police official stated that the youth claimed that he had rented the firearm from a ‘C’ Field, Sophia resident, whom he identified.
Police allegedly found the other two firearms at the man’s residence. They also arrested another man at the same location with a quantity of marijuana.
