A taxi driver was yesterday granted $200,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he denied a charge of sexually grooming a female relative.
Thirty-one-year-old Daniel James denied the charge which alleged that between December 12, last, and January 18, he communicated with a child under the age of 16, via WhatsApp, with intention to engage in sexual activity with her.
According to information, the defendant when he first started to communicate with the 15-year-old knew that the child was underage and he continued to communicate with her.
It was also reported that during the month of January, the defendant made arrangements to meet and have sex with the teen.
A relative of the teen saw the conversation between the teen and the defendant and reported the matter to the police station.
An investigation was later carried out and the defendant was arrested and charged for the offence.
The Magistrate instructed the defendant to make his next court appearance on April 16 for report.
