All roads lead to the Bauxite Mining town of Linden tomorrow for the seventh edition of the annual Baker’s Memorial 60-mile Cycling Classic which will bring together the cream of the nations riders.
With lucrative cash and other prizes on offer, the race which will see the competitors battling it out on the Linden Soesdyke Highway for the most part, will pedal off at 08:00hrs outside the Baker’s Residence at the GTT Junction before heading around the Town and then to the Highway.
Last year’s winner was Raynauth ‘Obeah Man’ Jeffrey and while it is not sure if he is in Guyana to defend his title, a slew of other good riders will be putting their hands up to win the top prize.
Among them are Hamza Eastman, Geron Williams, Paul De Nobrega, Jamal John, Alanzo Ambrose, Andrew Hicks, Deeraj Garbarran, Walter Grant-Stuart, Romello Crawford, Andre Green, Jeban Crawford, Jornel Yearwood, Silvio Inniss, Briton John, Adealie Hodge, Jason Cameron, Junior Niles, Lear Nunes and Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay.
Niles had won the veteran segment of last year’s race while Briton John did so for juniors with Hazine Barret the top female.
There would also be a race for BMX and Mountain Bike riders. Sponsors of the event are Squadra, Sports Plus, The Baker’s Family & Friends and Clear Water Guyana Inc.
