After years of neglect and flooding whenever it rains. Flooding in the Berbice High Court may now be a thing of the past. The compound of the Berbice High Court, situated at the junction of Esplanade and Vryheid Road, in New Amsterdam, which was prone to flooding as soon as the rain starts drizzling is being rehabilitated.
The compound is usually one of the first places that would flood when it rains. As much as two feet of water would accumulate in some sections of the compound forcing employees and those attending court to take off their foot wear or don long boots to enter the precincts of the court.
After years of being an eyesore whenever it rains, the authorities have decided to raise the grounds of the compound especially the area around the High Court building so as keep the water out. Sand, stone, concrete blocks, clay bricks and other building materials are being used to build up the compound so as to allow those using the facility easier access.
