The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) hosted three under-19, round-robin games on Saturday as play in the Edward B. Beharry and Co, National Sports Commission and Ministry of Education (MOE) sponsored National Schools’ Basketball Festival, ‘Regionals’ leg continued.
In the first match of the afternoon which tipped off at 16:00hrs, St. Rose’s High School (SRHS) overcame an early scare to rally back and defeat The Bishops’ High School (BHS) 31-26 in the 40-minute game.
Bishops’ Roydon Glasgow saw his game high effort of 11points being netted in vain as SRHS’ Kahil Farrington (9 points, 6 rebounds) and Joshua Spencer (7pointss, 11 rebounds) guided the Church Street school to the five point win.
The second game bounced off at 17:00hrs and fans got their first look at the tournament’s debutants, Chase Academic Foundation. The recently put together Chase’s Basketball team were good enough to grab a 10-point victory over School of the Nations In the match that finished 33-23.
Shaquel Charles (8 points) and Kashif Liverpool (7 points and 15 rebounds) ensured that Chase were the better of the two private schools in B’Ball on the day. Meanwhile, Kareem Boyle (10points and 9 rebounds) along with Avian Chester (6points and 5 rebounds) were the best of Nations’ team that only had one substitute player available in the match, as opposed to Chase that had seven.
The feature match of the evening saw Plaisance Secondary defeating the Government Technical Institute (GTI) 47-39. Andrew Johnson and Nigel Bowen, who both outfit for Plaisance Guardians Basketball Club, each netted 19 points in the easy victory. Bowen added an impressive 21 rebounds to easily emerge as the player of that match while his club mate Anton Fileen netted a team-high 14 points with nine rebounds for GTI in a losing effort.
The competition resumes on April 13th, next Friday at the CASH with more round-robin play.
