Wins for NYTS, DCC & GCC
Half centuries from Anthony Antonio (71) and Dwayne Bollers (51) and 5-24 from off-spinner Rohan Suknanand were the top performances in the third round on the GCA’s New York Tri State 50-over U-19 cricket tournament yesterday.
However, on another day that was blessed with scorching heat, none of these performances were in a winning cause as host DCC beat MSC by six wickets despite Bollers’ heroics, TSC lost to NYTS by 70 runs despite Antonio’s knock and GNIC hammered GYO by 79 runs although Suknanand spun webs around the batsmen.
At Eve Leary, the North Americans followed up their first match 406-8 against GNIC, making 306 all out yesterday on another slow track before dismissing TSC for 226 in a high scoring game in which 532 runs were scored.
Unlike in their contest against GNIC when Raymond Ramrattan scored the only ton so far and Aksay Homraj and Dauod Mohamed registered fifties, yesterday nobody reached 50 but five batsmen passed 25.
Ramrattan (48) and Homraj (37) put together 75 for third wicket, while Mark Pooran (23) and Isaiah Jagernauth (18*) added 50 for the ninth wicket to see the Americans to their second consecutive 300 plus total in a tournament which is so far littered with low scores.
In between the half-century stands, Mohammed fell five short of back-to-back fifties, while Yash Khangura (38) and Gotham Ravendra (26) contributed important runs.
Pacer Mark Baptiste was again among the wickets with 2-54, while Joshua Blackman has 2-41 for TSC who began with Demerara U-19 left-hander Adrian Hinds taking 10 from the first over before departing for a meaningless 14 with three boundaries.
The elegant Mark Ramsammy struck five fours and a six in his 44 and when he departed at 91-4, Antonio’s 71 which included five fours and a six only give the total respectability as Aaron Seepersaud had 3-24.
Ravindra, Travis Ross and Khangura supported Seepersaud with two wickets each.
At DCC, Pacer Qumar Torrington (4-28), Nkosi Beaton (2-11) and Sagar Hertheramani (2-21) conspired to blow MSC away for 125 as only level headed Bollers reached in the teens with an accomplished 51 decorated with five boundaries.
DCC reached 127-4 from 20.1 for an easy win as West Indies U-16 Skipper Sachin Singh (26) and Hertheramani (25) lead the way. Collis Pimple (2-9) was the most successful MSC bowler.
At GNIC, the host made 175 in 27 overs and bowled GYO for 96, in a game that was reduced to 35 over per side due to a late start caused by preparation moisture on the pitch.
Dodi O’selmo hit six fours in 49, while Shamari Ryan (36), Lester Cupidore (19) and Carlos Pollard (16) were the only batsmen to pass 15. Suknanand got support from Hrtik Singh (4-38)
Andugges Rodrigues (3-18), Cupidore (2-12) and O’selmo (2-10) did the bulk of the damage with the ball as only Ashish Persaud (31) offered fight.
The fourth round is set for tomorrow at MSC, YMCA and DCC. (Sean Devers)
