Berbice and Demerara again shared the spoils when the two counties met for the second time in male and female volleyball competition.
After matching skills in the open court in Berbice, the matches were played this time indoors at the National Gymnasium in Demerara. Berbice again won among the males, while Demerara was once again victorious among the females.
Both games went to five sets. Being at home in familiar circumstances Demerara put up a better fight after being beaten 3-0 in the first encounter.
The games were being used to help select teams to represent Guyana in a number of upcoming encounters. In a thrilling three best in five sets, Berbice won 22, 25, 17, 25, 25 to Demerara’s 25, 22, 25, 17, 22.
Earlier, the Demerara females defeated the Berbice females: 17, 25, 13, 25, 22 in another close affair between the two teams. The first encounter had also gone to five sets.
Guyana first overseas encounter is in Bolivia in May of 2018.
Meanwhile, a number of players have been shortlisted in anticipation of being selected to represent Guyana. Males: Devindra Latchman, Shemroy Ross, Quacy Matheson, Adriel Moore, Samuel Fraser, Dexter Hoppie, Richard Samaroo, Rick Richie, Ronaldo Bobb, Joshua Jagmohan, Marcelious Hector, Akeem Bowling, Dayimon Al Ahamad, Wendel Austin, Kristophe Shepperd, Ian Bagot, Trevlon Mc Rae, Kapeldev Samaroo, Simon Seecharran, Gino Carrol, David Bowman and Juan Valaques.
Females: Danielle Samaroo, Famke David, Amisha Mohabir, Mercedez Ford, Philana Simpson, Hannah Hicks, Kim Chan, Olivia Welcome, Abbigail Humphrey, Jrystal Paddy, Candacy Mentore, Leanna Davis, Shania Thomas, Cherrffy-Ann Fraser and Kirenia Ballard.
Players are asked to continue training at the two venues which is the National Gymnasium for the Demerara players and the GTCPM venue for the Berbice players.
