Posting first round wins when competition in the Magic Moments / Berbice Cricket Board T20 Tournament for Second Division teams in the Lower Corentyne area commenced on Sunday last were Jai Hind Cricket Club, Rose Hall Town Bakewell, Courtland, Port Mourant Cricket Club, Toopoo Cricket Club, Fyrish Cricket Club and their Chesney counterparts.
The tournament which sponsored by Sueria Manufacturing under their Magic Moments Brand is being played in four Zones namely, West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne.
Each Zone will crown its own Champion before they move on to the finals to decide the overall champion.
Following are the results of the matches played:
At Jai Hind CC ground – Jai Hind Cricket Club (JHCC) trounced Ramnarine Memorial (RM) by 86 runs. Taking strike, Jai Hind amassed 212-5 in their 20-overs. Leading the charge was Adrian Singh with a polished 63, Imran Hussain supported with 40 and John Sumair 15.
Bowling for Ramnarine Memorial, R. Amir collected 2-42 and M. Hardial 2-38. In reply, Ramnarine Memorial was restricted to 125-7 when their quota of overs expired. B. Toolsie top scored with 24. Bowling for Jai Hind, Ramalingum Mangali took 2-23.
At the Hamshire ground – Rose Hall Town Bakewell got past Tamarind Root by 36 runs. Rose Hall Town in their 20-overs posted 165 led by Junior Sinclair’s 45 and Kevlon Anderson’s 30. Bowling for Tamarind Root, Brandon Prashad claimed 4-26 and D. Ramsammy 2-25. Tamarind Root in reply found the going tough and could only manage 129-9 in their 20-overs.
Brandon Prashad 24 and D. Looknauth 17 were the only two contributions of note as Keith Simpson 3-14, Senior Guyana female player Erva Giddings 3-22 and Kevin Sinclair 2-33 did the damage with the ball for the winners.
At the Tain Block 4 ground – Courtland eased past Tain Block 4 by 23 runs. Courtland bating first were bowled out 154 in 19-overs; Oliver Giddings 21, Andre Percival 19, and Troy Mathieson 18 leading with the bat.
Bowling for Tain, Mangal captured 3-35 and L. Mooklall 2-15. Tain Block 4 in reply fell short by 23 runs being bowled out for 131 in 18-overs. G. Budhoo 25 and L. Mooklall 24 were the top scorers; the damage with the ball for Courtland was done by Leyland Edwards 3-24 and John Percival, 2-27.
At Port Mourant ground – Port Mourant Cricket Club tamed Rose Hall Tigers by 33. Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) posted a challenging 179-4 off their20-overs; Kellon Carmichael leading with a composed 66 not out, A. Sewkarran 44 and R. Singh 27.
Bowling for Rose Hall Tigers, Delbert Hicks picked up 2-29 and C. Arjune 2-34. Rose Hall Tigers were sent packing for146 off 19.3 overs. M. Gounden made 34 and Khemraj Mahadeo 23. Bowling for Port Mourant, K. Carmichael claimed 2-8, D. Mahadeo 2-25 and D. Samaroo 2-26.At Albion ground – Toopoo Cricket Club hammered Fyrish Road Cricket Club by six wickets. Taking first strike, Fyrish Road could only manage 77 for 9 off their allotted 20-overs , the only two batters getting into double figures were Reeaz Hamid with 21 and Imran Nasirbark, 20.
Arvinda Arjune snared 4-12 and Surendra Ramdeo 3-15 for Toopoo Cricket Club which brushed off the runs in 12.4 overs, reaching 78-4. Leading the way were Yoganand Permaul 17 and Norman Mangar 16. Bowling for Fyrish, J. Kamaladin had 3 for 15.
At Hampshire – Fyrish Cricket Club mauled Belvedere United by 129 runs. Fyrish batting first rattled up 177-7 in 20-overs; Ramnarine Chattergoon slammed 38 and Troy Sinclair 28. Bowling for Belvedere United, D. Dilshan 3-20 and A. Hafeez 2-12. Belvedere United were evicted for 48 in 19-overs with Y. Chinapen capturing 4-26 and S. Bacchus 2-12.
At Tamarind Root ground – Chesney Cricket Club got past Whim National by 82 runs. Chesney Cricket Club was bowled out for 172 in exactly 20-overs batting first. Imran Khan lashed 60 and S. Latchana 30. M. Charran had 2-25 for Whim National which was bowled out for 90 in 17-overs. K. Motain with 20 and M. Charran 16 were the top run getters. The main wrecker was David Harilall with 4-33 and A. Deonarine, 2-27.
Meanwhile, BCB President Hilbert Foster visited all the grounds where matches were played and expressed his satisfaction at the huge turnout of spectators at most venues. Foster hinted that the Magic Moments tournament is the start of a very hectic year for clubs across Berbice.
