Oswin Archer, 32, a car driver who resides at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman, yesterday, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to three charges.
He denied the allegation that on March 7, last, he stole one BLU Cell phone from Jamela Dazzell in the vicinity of Camp Road, Georgetown.
The second charge stated that on same day he obtained credit under false pretence from Jamela Dazzell.
He was said to have hired her car, HC 4770 and travelled to New Amsterdam, Berbice, then to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport before heading back to Camp Road where the cell phone was reportedly stolen.
The car rental amounted to $38,000 which he refused to pay. He claimed that the charges against him were untrue and that he had nothing to do with the woman, her car or her cell phone.
He was also charged For Incurred Debt to the popular nightspot, Palm Court located on Main Street. On March 6 last, Archer went into the club and ordered a lavish amount of foods and beverages to a cost of $31,000.
He was said to have ordered a number of Guinness stout, Hennessey shots, chicken wings, nuggets, Malta and chicken fried rice. When confronted about payment, the man refused to pay the bill and left the premises. A report was made, which consequently led to his arrest.
He was granted bail on each charge to a total of $160,000. The case has been postponed to tomorrow. (Deneita Fredericks)
