Team Coco’s Hamza Eastman added yet another first place to his already bulging collection when he stormed to victory in the feature 35-lap school boys and invitation race when the 5th annual Star Party Rentals Cycle Meet came off yesterday at the National Park.
Eastman won an exciting sprint ahead of Trojan Cycle Club’s Romello Crawford; the duo broke away from the leading pack of five on the penultimate lap. Eastman’s winning time was One Hour 17 minutes 20.34 Seconds, over two minutes slower than last year’s winning time.
Jamal John, Paul De Nobrega, Curtis Dey and Walter Grant-Stuart, who sprinted away from the chasing pack of four, closed out the top six places. Stephano Husbands won the first prime prize, John took three, De Nobrega one and Dey the other three.
The junior 5-lap race was taken by Adealie Hodge with David Hicks and Briton John following in that order. Hicks also won the 12-14 years 3-lap event from Jomar Holigan. Junior Niles was the only repeat champion from last year; he successfully defended the Veteran Under-50 title.
He won the 5-lap battle in 11 Minutes 50.67 Seconds, Wilbert Benjamin placed second and Lear Nunes, third. Ian Jackson ruled the roost in the Veteran Over-50 contest, Kennard Lovell followed with Linden Blackman coming in third.
John Niles was the lone BMX Boys 9-12 competitor; Jared Barrington topped the field in the 6-9 category, with Jessica Mohabir and Antonia Vandenburg following in that order.
Taran Garbarran, Marvin Knights and John Niles completed the 12-14 BMX boys contest in that order.
