Former athletics Coach Leslie Black and Comedian Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones have been helping to raise fund for the 18-member National Athletic team which is scheduled to depart Guyana on Wednesday for the Bahamas where they will compete in this year’s Junior CARIFTA Games.
Black told Kaieteur Sports yesterday that Jones, a key Actor in the local Comedy ‘Nothing laugh about’ which is held every year at the National Cultural Centre, had indicated the willingness of the cast to help with the team’s trip to the Bahamas to represent Guyana.
“Last week Saturday we were at Payless Varity Store on Wellington Street from 10:00 hrs before going up to the Giftland Mall the next day to sell CDs of the show.”
Black, who once Coached distance runners Alika Morgan and Cleveland Forde, disclosed that CDs of seasons 1-10 of ‘Nothing to laugh about’ will be on sale for $1,000 each from 10:00hrs outside the Payless Varity Store.
Black said that it is important to support sports because these boys and girls train very hard to bring glory to their Country and encouraged the public to buy the CDs.
According to Black the monies will be handed over to the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) for them to give the team as a part of their spending allowance. (Sean Devers)
