East Coast Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition… Playoffs set for tomorrow at Haslington -actual competition kicks off next Wednesday

The East Coast Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Competition seems to be following the record breaking trend that was witnessed in the preceding two zones that were completed not so long ago.
The Organisers of the event have enjoyed a surge in teams requesting to participate in the Guinness phenomenon with Georgetown and West Demerara easily surpassing previous records of participating teams and judging from the feedback received to date, the East Coast version will follow suit.
Tomorrow the playoffs to select teams to join the automatic qualifiers will be conducted at the Haslington Tarmac and fans are being urged to come out and witness what is shaping up to be some hotly contested clashes as teams battle each other to enter the main draw.
Over $700,000 in prize monies and trophies will be up for grabs in the competition which will feature sixteen (16) teams to be played over three days, commencing next Wednesday, March 28, at the same venue.
The competition will resume on March 31 and conclude with the final and semi-finals on Easter Monday along with the Plate final which carries a first prize of $50,000.
The winning team in the competition will receive $400,000, while second, third and fourth place finishers take home $150,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
In last year’s final Melanie-B defeated Plaisance –B 1-0, while Buxton Diamond finished third following a similar margin of victory over BV-B.
The winner is guaranteed a spot in the national playoffs so there is much to play for.
Meanwhile, the teams enjoying automatic berths are:
Champion Melanie-B, 2014 winner Melanie-A, Plaisance-B, 2013 winner Plaisance-A, 2015 champ BV-A, 2016 winner BV-B, Buxton Diamond, Buxton, Victoria Church Yard, Haslington Hypers, Belfield Warriors and Paradise-A.
The matchups for the playoffs are:
Young Stars vs Vryheid Lust-08:00hrs
Golden Grove South vs Belfield Stars-08:15hrs
Victoria Hardball vs Uprising-08:30hrs
Paradise-B vs Police-A-08:45hrs
Golden City vs Police-B-09:00hrs
Mahaica Determinators vs Bad-A-Road-09:15hrs
Mahaica Guinness Bar vs Young Jiggers-09:30hrs
Each game will be played for a period of eight (8) minutes with four teams set to advance.
