The Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) of Berbice will tomorrow stage a 10-lap cycle event around the town of New Amsterdam in honour of the Town’s Mayor Winifred Haywood.
Haywood, a retired headmistress and practicing Pastor was recently re-elected to the post.
The event, which is for FACC cyclists only, is expected to pedal off from in front of the rainbow Bar and Beer Garden on Republic Road, proceed north and turn west into Vryheid Street then South into Main Road, left into Philadelphia Street and another left onto Republic Road.
That sequence will be completed 10 times before concluding at its point of origin at Rainbow Bar.
The presentation ceremony will be held immediately after the completion of the event. The winner will collect the Mayor’s Lien Trophy.
The riders are expected to be sent on their way by Mayor Haywood at 14:00 hrs. The Mayor and councilors and staff of the council are expected to be in attendance to assist with the presentation of trophies and prizes.
Prizes will be awarded to the first five finishers, the first veteran, the first junior and the first female. There will also be five prime point prizes up for grabs.
At the completion of the main event there will be a race for BMX riders.
Before the race the riders are expected to be addressed by her Worship the Mayor, while the cyclists will do a flying start and a ride past in honour of Her Worship the Mayor.
