The planning committee of the National Schools’ Relay Festival met Tuesday as efforts to successfully host the third annual edition of this event that runs off next month (13th & 14th April) at the National Track and Field Facility (NATFC) are being doubled.
The meeting was chaired by coordinator Nicholas Fraser and Allied Arts Unit Administrator Lorraine Barker-King, while other committee members in attendance included Aubrey Hutson, Trevor Williams, Gaafari Torrington and marketing coordinator Mondale Smith.
Already several corporate citizens and government ministries have signaled their interest in supporting the event via sponsorship while others are being engaged. Some 16 secondary schools and eight tertiary institutions from the eleven education districts are expected to compete for top honours at the event began in 2016 as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Registration forms have been issued to all Regional Education District offices and registration deadline on tomorrow. The relay festival will feature athletes from secondary and tertiary institutions to encourage them to remain active in the track and field disciplines. It is also used to discover new promising athletes. This is the only activity that specifically targets athletes at the tertiary institution level.
Admission to the meet will be free of cost. (Ministry of Education release)
