Over the years, the police and the fire service have come in for criticisms time and again.
Whether it is for arriving late, for seeing little results or little water, the thanks have been hard in coming.
However, a Golden Grove resident is thanking her lucky stars and the Guyana Fire Service.
On Monday evening, around 19:00hrs, Judy De Abreu said she was sitting at her property, Lot 785 Section C Block Y, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, when there was loud sound.
At first, she thought that it was squib. But she quickly realized that the sounds came from a post with a transformer. Her music system, which she had on, started making strange sounds and the lights started to dim.
“I thought it was low voltage.”
The woman said she quickly turned off her appliances and smelt something burning. By this time, calls were made to the Diamond fire station. Within minutes a fire engine arrived.
“These firemen were very prompt and professional and did everything to restore our power,” said the woman, in loud praise.
Her fan, television and other appliances were burnt.
The firemen managed to call an emergency crew from the Guyana Power and Light Inc. who worked quickly to restore power.
“The firemen checked everything and I appreciate their professionalism. It was a good feeling,” the woman said.
